Lets Learn a Little About Me
Alan shooting Nikon D7200 with Nikkor 50mm f1.4 MF lens
My name is Alan Jurgensen. I live in Verona Wisconsin. I learned an interest in Photography from my father at a young age. He was big into photography and did Wedding and Portrait photography. We always had a darkroom in the basement as long as I can remember.
I did learn to shoot black and white film on Pentax K1000 cameras. Then to develop, dry, and print photographs. A lost art is the process of dodging and burning your photo during printing. Longer versus shorter exposures from the enlarger were one of the few post-processing steps available. During my young adult years, I did have apartments where I turned a closet into a darkroom. Some of my biggest prints where in the 16x20 inches range.
After settling down, getting married and having kids, I kinda drifted away from serious/artistic photogrpahy. I, like many others owned, various point-n-shoot cameras then digital cameras as they became available. Then one night, I was trying to shoot a cool looking thunderstorm at night with my digital point-n-shoot camera. It all came back to me in an instant: I used to shoot Pentax SLR in manual mode and would have been able to achieve that thunderstorm capture!
Immediately after that, I started researching DSLR's and lenses. I ended up with a Nikon D7200 and an assortment of lenses for different needs. Couldnt be happier with this setup.
I enjoy all genres of photography:
- Landscape Photography
- Portrait Photography
- Street Photography
- Night and Low-light Photography
- Long Exposure Photography
- Macro Photography
- What else is there? I'll try it!
